cocaineIt’s easy for many of us to be oblivious to the harsh reality of how drugs are stored in the body. It’s not widely known and the details to this are somewhat disturbing to say nothing of astonishing.

Cocaine taken orally peaks in the blood in one hour. Smoking the drug will peak in forty five minutes. Around a half hour after snorting it, it will peak. Intravenous doses in cocaine will peak within a mere five minutes. The half life of cocaine is about an hour. Cocaine can be found in the system via a urinalysis test up to four days after use for sporadic users, and up to twelve for chronic users. However, cocaine can stay in the system for years…

Let’s start with how drugs are generally stored in the body. This includes a variety of drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, and other recreational street drugs. Drugs and their metabolites will in part be somewhat immediately dislodged by feces, urine and sweat. However, due to the fact that drugs are fat-soluble, they will mostly lodge in the fatty tissues. They tend to have a natural attraction to the fat cells, therefore attaching to and getting stored in the fat once ingested.

Body Damage Caused by Cocaine

To make matters worse, during the filter process from the blood through to the liver, some of these drug residues and metabolites will get lodged in the liver’s fat cells also, which can result in eventual liver damage. A chronic use of drugs have been shown to disrupt the major function of fat which produces hormones. The basic nature of this disruption can harmfully affect things contributing to the necessary function for the body such as energy levels, mood and immunity. In turn, this can result in a long list of physical problems. This can potentially cause a vitamin deficiency. This is also what seems to be a contributing factor to cravings.

Cocaine in particular affects adrenal function due to the fact that it actually mimics adrenaline when initially rushing through the system. A long-term use of the drug actually causes adrenal atrophy. Depending on cocaine administration, cocaine dependency can result in a dulled or sometimes complete lack of sense of smell, routine nosebleeds, and chronically runny nose.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we sometimes break down fat when we’re either under stress, hungry, tired, or during exercise. That’s why there is an almost guaranteed probability of drugs getting reactivated. The drug dislodges while the fat that stored it is now being broken down, releasing into the system as though it were cursing through the veins all over again. This is what most drug cravings can be attributed to. A recommendation would be to swap the bad fat for good fat. This would have to be supplements and foods of high quality fat in order to contribute to proper fat exchange. Eating foods or taking supplements that are high in the omega 3 to omega 6 ratio would create the necessary balance in helping to push out the reactivating toxins.
